Activist Investment Firm Kimmeridge Takes Aim at Chesapeake; Proposes Changes
Chesapeake Energy Corp. has begun talks with stakeholder and activist investment firm Kimmeridge Energy in an effort to boost Chesapeake's value, according to a report by Reuters.
Kimmeridge has declined to go into detail on specifics regarding proposed improvements or changes they have made to Chesapeake. However, the report cited that Mark Viviano, a managing partner at Kimmeridge, stated that the company is lagging behind its competitors due to a "lack of strategic clarity."
Currently, Kimmeridge holds approximately two million shares in Chesapeake (or 1.6%).
Chesapeake's shares rose over 11% on the news, with shares hovering near $95.00 per share as of midday on May 4, 2022.
